Sister's Outdoor Quilt Show

I just got home from attending the outdoor quilt show in Sisters Oregon. Another fabulous show this year lots of events, great shops, divine food and beautiful quilts. Met up with friends and made new friends too.We had such a wonderful time we booked our cabin at 5 Pines again for next year. I'll be posting lots of pictures as soon as I unpack so stop by again soon.

Up In the Clouds

 

It's been awhile since my last post, might say I've had my eye on the sky lately. I'm trying to get a really cool sky picture to possibly use on my new Web Site. My new web site is coming along nicely thanks to my brother who is building it. I don't think he realized how little I know about technical computer stuff, nor did he realize I also lag behind on time management skills. My excuse, "I've got my eye on the sky" and "My head is in the Clouds" looking to capture the perfect sky.

It hasn't been all sky watching, I've been busy long-arm quilting plus working my night job. Here is my lastest customer quilt. Sharon did an excellent job piecing her very first quilt.

It's been a whirlwind of Activity lately.

Lots of Customer Quilts.

Our Daughter graduated from College. She's worked full-time while going to college so this has taken her awhile.

I'm so proud she didn't give up along the way.

My brother from NC came for the occasion, it was so good to see him and to catch up. Plus he is very business, computer and internet smart. Convinced me to join facebook plus he will be building me a website. I have lots of irons in the fire right now so it won't be up for awhile.

Perfect Ten Quilt

My lastest quilts; The pattern is called "Perfect Ten" by Swirly Girls Design, omitting the borders the finished quilt is 48"x60". Again I used a fabric line  by Red Rooster called "Paparazzi". I love how the Red and Grey works together in this line. To quilt it I used a panto by Timeless Quilting called "One Cloudy Day".

The quilt on the right is the same pattern but I used a Red fabric instead of a Silver Grey fabric to make the "Frames" . Same cool quilt with a whole new look. I haven't finished quilting the Red framed quilt yet. Not sure how I will quilt it or what thread color to use either. Sure big decisions for a quilt made only to warm someones lap.

Guess I'd better get back to working on my customers quilts. My brother will be here for a visit next week so won't have much time to quilt.

A Sweet Quilt & Recap

Although lots has been happening on the home front, I've still managed to quilt a few customers quilts. One of my sweet ladies was commissioned to make this quilt for a dear friend of hers. I used a panto called "Chantilly Lace" and So Fine thread in a very pale green color to quilt it with. Both the front and the back turned out terrific.

Besides quilting for customers I've been making my fair share of quilts, cutting the pattern pieces out has truly been a breeze...I finally gave in and bought an Accu-quilt studio cutter. I don't know why I waited so long. I Mostly use the strip cutters and then I sub cut the rest of the pieces from the strips I've cut. When I saw that the Studio Cutter had an adapter so that you could use the "Go" cutter dies I just had to bite the bullet and go for it. I've read some say there is lots of fabric waste using these cutters. So far I haven't noticed this to be a problem. Before the cutters when I was cutting my strips I always wasted fabric because I cut some of the strips crooked so had to trim off an 1" or so every 2-3 strips just to get the fabric straight again. So depending how you look at it both ways there's a bit of waste.

Any who I'm happy and my wrists are really happy too. Now not only do I hunt for "Fat Quarter" friendly patterns, I hunt for "Studio Cutter" friendly patterns.

I recently attended Spring Market at EE Schencks. It's always fun to see what's New and coming soon. I discovered a new to me Fabrics by "Frond". Of course I couldn't resist their new line called "Plaster". And by "In The Beginnings" fabrics I found "Painted Summer". Both of these fabulous fabric lines will be landing of my door step very soon.

Imagin living in a large city that is Fabric Shop needy on your end of town. What does a "quilter" do? I'm weighing the pros and cons between opening a "brick and morter" or a "Web" based Store Front. I wish that I had a crystal ball, but I guess so does everyone else.

Just a short post to let you know I'm still here.
I finished quilting the 2 quilts I posted earlier. I'm pleased how they turned out. Just wished I had time to get the binding sewn down but that will have to wait till I go to the beach house.

To quilt the Yellow quilt I used the Bubbles board from RNS, I freehanded the other quilt.

I bought an accu-quilt studio fabric cutter recently. Sure makes cutting strip easier and faster. I've used the Studio cutter to cut the last two quilts I've made. I'll show them to you next time. Both of the quilts were made using new fabric collections by "In the Beginning Fabrics".

It will be a busy weekend at my house, lots going on. Should have a few goodies to show next time.
